I can't recall when I first heard "Reilly's Daughter" but it was certainly whilst still at school as this song is also a Rugby Song in my part of England. As a Rugby song the various lyrics ranged from the mild ribald to the depths of depravity. What we sung about Reilly's daughter and Reilly himself is not really fit for you, dear surfer. Nowadays I sing it straight, the version being taken from Soodlum's
100 Irish Ballads Volume 1 who describe it as an old and lively ballad dealing with the pursuit of Reilly's daughter by many a man who had to contend with a wild and dangerous father.
