Just as with
The Parting Glass, I first heard "Real Old Mountain Dew" on the same
The Clancy Brothers's record in the early sixties. It's a lovely light-hearted little song on the pleasures of illicit alcohol, namely potheen, and its benefits to all humanity be they
Pagan, Christian or Jew as the song goes. On the recording given above with the *.mp3 link, Dr Oliver Rosteck and I were charmingly accompanied by Anja-Maren Schmidt and her transverse flute. I am especially enamoured by her "diddly-ups" and diddly-eyes".
This song may be found in
Irish Street Ballads and is included in
We're Only Here For The Beer! - Light by
Dr. Rosteck and myself.
