The version of "Paddy lay back" that I sing can be found in Soodlum's 100 Irish Ballads Volume 2. It's of an incompetent, boozy seaman who gets himself thrown off the ship by the boatswain along with all the other no-good ugly sailors.
This song may be found in the Tyneside Maritime Chorus songbook but not yet in my personal repertoire
