The Maid on the Shore is yet another folksong that I first heard and learned from the lips of that fine Liverpudlian,
Brian Kelly. I transcribed his version in the early 1980's for the
Idle Fellows. It's a lovely song of a beautiful damsel who single-handedly robbed a stalwart crew and experienced captain of silver, gold and costly wares. As an encore, she used the captain's broadsword as a paddle to row quite alone ashore after having put the captain and crew to sleep with the completeness of her song.
