And I Gave Her Kisses One
Last updated: 11.10.23
I came across And I gave her kisses one in a popular German songbook that describes it as an English "joke" (sic) song. If it is a joke, then it is not a good one having heard scores ten times better. The song itself rolls along easy and it is a good programme filler for long engagements. It is reminiscent of the ribald "Roll me over, lay me down etc." type of thing first learned as a thirteen-year-old cadet on my first "camp" at Castlemartin, South Wales in 1954. I suspect that the version I sing has been heavily bowdlerised by the German editors which is no bad thing.
