Herring's Head
Last updated: 11.10.23
If I remember correctly, I first hear the tongue twister Herrings Head at the Cumberland Arms on Wednesday, 6th June, 2012 being sung by Kate Gessey, Jackie Lyness and Stephen Hope. I was so fascinated that I determined to take it into my repertoire. It is a splendid song telling all the various things that can be made from bits and bobs removed from that unfortunate fishes body. The version that I sing is based on the one given in The Penguin Book of English Folk Songs under the title of The Red Herring.
