The Drummer and the Cook
Last updated: 22.01.22
I came across The Drummer and the Cook in Daily Express Community Song Book. It tells humorously an improbable tale of love between a little (in stature most likely) drummer and one-eyed cook. Now, a female cook on His/Her Majesties vessels is a thing unheard of (and lacking an eye to boot!) and can only be attributed to Jack's unbounded fantasy. The last verse is a shocker and sums up the song's character.
When they went to church to say "I will", the drummer got a nark
For her one eye gliffed the Parson, and the t'other killed the Clerk."
