"Drink to me only with thine eyes" is yet another childhood song that did not enjoy my favour. It was only when browsing through
Folk Songs of the British Isles that I became aware of its charms and finally took it into my repertoire.
The lyrics are beautifully quaint coming from the pen (or quill) of Ben Johnson perfectly matching a very gentle and charming melody. In my senility I find very amusing to sing it when at the same time staring deep into to the eyes of my youthful listeners who do not understand a word!
