In der Bar zum Krokodil
Last updated: 11.10.23
This is a fantastic The Comedian Harmonists number which while not actually being a folk song was one that brought Nina Kreft and I together, the said gentlemen being among our most admired performers. The song has delightfully funny verses on the extra-marital goings on amongst the Pharaonic classes in an improbable night-spot in Ancient Egypt's metropolis namely Die Bar zum Krokodil [The Crocodile Bar] all those thousand's of years ago. This song makes huge demands on precise articulation - a real tongue-twister and, although we sang it often enough for our own pleasure it sadly proved to be too difficult and over-ambitious, just as Maskenball im Gänsestall did, for public performance.
