When You Wore A Tulip was a big hit for Wenrich's spouse Dolly Connolly, at least it was so proclaimed on the cover of the original sheet music. That it was a hit is very probable as the sentimental lyrics were very popular at that time and no doubt profitable. A fact borne out by the many imitators and further such songs penned by Wenrich himself,
Put on Your Old Grey Bonnet (1909) and
We've Kept The Golden Rule (1910) for example. At least two editions of When You Wore a Tulip are known. One shows Dolly Connolly herself on the front cover whilst the other depicts a Chinese lady, one Chee Toy of "The Ching Ling Foo Co." - what all that signifies is beyond the editor.
