These two quintets "Rubum Quem" and "Madona" by Christopher Tye was one of several works which I purchased in June 1983 and which were intended to be used by the "Klingende Runde für jung und alt". This one was never played by that group but was eventually played a few times in the mid-1990's by
Blue Monday and Blue Tuesday. These are relatively easy pieces and present no problems for intermediate players. I particularly like the opening sonorous passages in Rubum Quem whereby the two tenors and bass come fully into their element.
According to the notes given by the editor, Marylin Wailes, they are faithfully transcribed from the original MS. in Christ Church Library, Oxford whereby the note values have been halved and transposed up an octave.
