The cover of the original sheet music proudly proclaimed that Chocolate Drops was Harry von Tilzer's greatest hit and it is certainly a captivating composition. Covering the publisher's bets it was described as being suitable for a march, cakewalk or two-step. Its form is AABACCB form with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between the CC- and B-strains whereby the AABA- and CCB-strains are in the major keys of Bb and Eb respectively. A jolly tootling piece where all voices have their say. The original piano score is marked Fine at the end of the final A-strain but there is no corresponding DC or DS, an oversight? Who knows?.
Chocolate Drops was published by Harry von Tilzer Music Pub. Co., New York, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
