Purchasing information Notice for leaders/bass players
Length: approx. 3¾ mins. Sounds best if 1st tenor and bass are doubled.
Scott and indeed his publisher John Stark ("The Publisher of Ragtime That Is Different" - Stark's own blurb) were never tired of proclaiming that their ragtime offerings represented the real McCoy and
Pegasus certainly fits the bill. It has an AABBCC form whereby particularly the A strain is most decidedly classic. One authority suggests that because of a Stark requirement that the later rags should fit just two pages, a fourth strain or repeated A strain is missing and as a substitute he performs Pegasus with a repeated A strain after BB. It works!
As a recorder ensemble piece this adaptation is well balanced in that the descant, treble and 1st tenor voices each have the limelight when playing the B, C and A strains respectively. A fun piece!
Pegasus was published by
Stark Music Co, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
There is also a
quartet version of this item.
