Length: approx. 3 mins.
Florida Rag is a descant's delight! Its form is AABBACB with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between the C- and B-strains. A happy whistling affair which charmingly tootles along. The descant has all the running but is joined in the C-strain by the treble for 16 repeated bars of close harmony - a beautiful touch. All-in-all an apt ragtime tribute celebrating the Sunshine State.
In its time it was very popular and was recorded as a banjo solo by Vess Ossman in 1907 by both Victor and Columbia. Later recordings were made by Fred Van Eps for Pathe and by his Trio for Victor in 1912.
Florida Rag was published by

A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
