Ragamuffin is a remarkable composition for a 17-year old, an exciting, breathtaking piece as ragged as it gets. It is in AABBCC form with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between the B- and C-strains whereby the AB- and C- strains are written in the major keys of F and Bb respectively. The melodies of the A- and B-strains are of a similar character and played by the descant and 1st tenor an octave apart. The descant has the C-strain entirely to him- or herself making it a descant's dream.
