Chas. Johnson covered his bets in subtitling
Teasing the Cat as a rag or a fox trot, looking after the old whilst heralding in the new as it were. Whatever it is a lively enough piece with a lot of enjoyment in it. Its form is AABBACCBB with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AABBA- and CCBB- strains are in the major keys of C and F respectively. The cover of the original sheet music shows a yowling moggie in full chorus at the height of the mating season in a nocturnal setting having a dilapidated old boot being hurled at it by an unseen unappreciative audience no doubt yearning for a peaceful, uninterrupted bit of shuteye. This piece will certainly keep both performers and concert guest wide-awake!
