Happy Rag is a just that, a bright and cheerful affair in AABBACCB form with a 4-bar introduction whereby the AABBA- and CCB-.strains are in the major keys of C and F respectively. The cover of the original sheet music is graced by a hideous caricature of a seated banjo-playing Negro with a huge smile, no doubt to match the title, and dressed almost like a clown in the patriotic colours of red, white and blue.
Happy Rag was published by Ajax Music Co., Chicago, Illinois, USA.
A tempo of 76 crotchets/min. is suggested.
