Length: approx. 2½ mins. Sounds best if the bass is doubled.
Deuces Wild Rag was dedicated to Mr. Earl A. Fay, St. Louis, Missouri - one of the poker players shown on the cover of the original sheet music perhaps? Who knows? The rag itself is an exciting and wild piece as ragged as it gets in ABACA form with a 4-bar introduction form whereby the AB- and C-strains are written in the keys of Eb and Bb respectively. This adaptation for recorder sextet is really quite difficult mainly because it is a literally breathless rush with all voices being of equal importance. Especially demanding is maintaining balance in the melody chords requiring exquisite tonguing and breath control. A wonderful piece which leaves one wishing that Bauersachs had found time to have written more rags.
The editor is very much indebted to Carolyn Coleman for graciously providing access to her materials.
Deuces Wild Rag was published by H.T. Bauersachs & Co., St. Louis, Missouri, USA
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.

This adaptation is respectfully dedicated to the memory of Linda K. Coleman, who loved all music.
