Length: approx. 2 ½ mins. Sounds best with the 1st tenor and bass doubled.
Toots is a no-nonsense rag in a rondo ABACA form. The rondo strain hints at jazz passages to come, the B-strain straightforward whilst the longer C-strain has inventive touches giving the rhythm section opportunities to shine. A fun piece begging to be included in an Arndt programme providing contrast to completely different pieces such as Nola (1915) and From Soup to Nuts (1914). Arndt dedicated this rag quite simply to "T" - Toots presumably; either a dainty-toed person or woodwind player possibly or even both? Who knows?
A tempo of 96 crotchets/min. is suggested.
Toots was published by G. Ricordi & Co. Inc, New York, USA.
There are also tenor solo and trio versions of this item.
