Length: approx. 3 ¾ mins. Sounds best if the 1st tenor and bass are doubled.
Unusual for the period, Ole Virginny Barbecue is heavily scored; dynamics, emphasis and phrasing all aplenty. Its form is AABBACCB whereby the initial AABBA sections are in the key of Bb whilst the final trio, CCB is in Eb. It was composed for piano and was arranged for band, orchestra, mandolin, guitar and zither. The editor considers that a recorder adaptation for this charming "folksy" piece is at least 100 years overdue. Careful ensemble skills are required.
Ole Virginny Barbecue was modestly published by Andino & Ruehl, New York, USA, as the season's crowning success.
A tempo of 86 crotchets/min. is suggested.
