John Stromberg (1853-1902)

Overview

John Stromberg was an American composer of popular music and songwriter who was born in New York. He worked together with lyricist Edgar Smith on stage shows for Webber and Fields which included The Geezer (1896), The Glad Hand (1897), Hurley-Burley (1898) and Whirl-i-gig (1899). Lillian Russell introduced several of his songs in the latter production. Stromberg also wrote a number of songs with Harry B. Smith. Of ragtime interest is his cakewalkThe Sun Do Move (1899). He committed suicide in New York in 1902, his Come Down, Ma Evenin' Star was published posthumously.
