According to the Internet source given below, Jelly Roll [Ferdinand] Morton was Black American jazz composer and pianist. Raised in New Orleans he was influenced early by the jazz pianist-composer Tony Jackson. By 1911 the jazz pianist James Price Johnson had heard him play his "Jelly Roll Blues" in New York and considered his style advanced for its time; the piece being published two years later Chicago. In 1913 Morton was in St. Louis and then he lived in Los Angeles from 1917 to 1922 enjoying great success. | Websites: | |||
