According to the Internet source given below, Michael Carr (real name Maurice Alfred Cohen), was a British popular music composer and lyricist born in Leeds.
Brought up in Dublin he ran away to sea in his teens eventually becoming a journalist in the USA. Under the name of Michael Carr, he played a number of small roles in Hollywood films. By 1934 he had settled in London where he wrote and co-wrote (mainly with lyricist Jimmy Kennedy) several songs for such performers as Florrie Forde and Gracie Fields. His best remembered songs are:
  • South of the Border (Down Mexico Way (1939) with Jimmy Kennedy
  • We're Going to Hang out the Washing on the Siegfried Line (1939) with Jimmy Kennedy
