Diderik Buxtehude  (1637-1707)

According to The New Penguin Dictionary of Music, Diderik Buxtehude was a Danish organist and composer; from 1668 organist at Lübeck, Germany, and therefore better known by the German form of his name Dietrich Buxtehude. Wrote organ and harpsichord pieces, also church cantatas, etc. Much esteemed in his own day; visited by Johann Sebastian Bach and George F. Handel as young men, influencing them both.
