Virtually nothing is known about this Tennessee ragtime pioneer. All his known works were published by the Nashville publisher H. A. French and his Mandy's Broadway Stroll (1898) has the distinction of being the first published rag in that town. His compositions are widely admired for their mixture of cakewalk and "folk" rag.
