Grace le Boy  (1890-1983)
Last updated: 28.01.24
Very little is known about Grace Le Boy. The daughter of Russian immigrants she was born in New York, She composed a number of popular songs such as I Wish I Had A Girl (1908), lyrics by Gus Kahn, the copyright of which she sold for the then record sum of $10,000. Others include Early in the Morning (1916) and The Good Ship Mary Ann (1914).
She met Gus Kahn in 1908, married in 1916 and had two children. She was his collaborator from 1908 until 1932 and they were the subjects of the film I'll See You in My Dreams (1951) starring Doris Day. Of ragtime interest is her Everybody Rag With Me (1914).

Many thanks to Alison Brown of Carmel, Indiana, who kindly sent biographical details by Email in August, 2013.
