He travelled with is father, John an itinerant showman performing in tent shows, medicine shows, town hall shows as an infant. The family act was joined by his younger brother Burton and they learned every kind of act and between them they played virtually every musical instrument.
They arrived in England in 1915 and debuted at the Victoria Palace they never returned to the USA. During the country-western music craze in the 1930s he formed "The Hayseeds " proving to be his greatest success. "The Hayseeds " performed from 1938 to 1957 when Harry Lester retired..
