A national treasure, he recorded songs in the legacy of Australia, particularly of bush life and Australian bush poets Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson. Dusty was the first Australian to have a No. 1 international hit song namely The Pub With No Beer by Gordon Parsons.
He sang Waltzing Matilda in the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.
He died in St Ives, New South Wales
