"The Wild Rover" along with Whiskey in the Jar are both, of course, extremely well known and are ever popular in Germany. There is even a German version by Klaus and Klaus (I disrespectfully call them "Klau and Klau") under the title of "An der Nordseekuste" which I most positively hate.
As it so popular I don't recall when I first heard this song, most likely from one of the earlier Dubliners recordings on radio. We sang it very often in the Idle Fellows and I still sing loads of times as a solo "artist", on occasions several times in the course of one evening. No St. Patrick's night at the
Pinökel is complete without it.
