"There is a house in New Orleans" (alternative title: "The Rising Sun") is extremely well-known in Germany and I sing it very often. I cannot remember my first hearing of it, but I do remember my first involvement. This was the occasion of meeting the family of a certain Herr Rupp, an amateur organist and colleague of mine at AEG-Telefunken in Ulm, Germany in 1982, where he and his family performed it as "Hausmusik".
The version I sing can be found in Lieder, Songs und Gospels 1.
