There many versions of "Bound for the Rio Grande" in the various song books I possess, including W.B. Whall's Sea Songs Ships and Shanties. The version I sing however can be found in Lieder, Songs und Gospels 3 which I prefer mainly because of the thirds that go so nicely with my concertina and for the fact that the lyrics cause no offence.
This song has become my "signature tune", not that my audiences have ever particularly noticed, in that I generally play it first to test out my concertina and my own form. A lot of concentration is required!.
This song may be found in the Tyneside Maritime Chorus songbook but not yet in my personal repertoire
