The North Country Collier
Last updated: 22.01.22
The North Country Collier may be found in John Masefield's A Sailor's Garland (1906) and is probably derived from a J. Pitts broadside ca. 1830 and an earlier manuscript from 1781.
The song itself is of a young maiden eulogising the advantages of a collier lad, a sailor plying his trade on those vessels carrying coals from Newcastle to ports far and near. This song may be found in the Tyneside Maritime Chorus songbook
