A "Pub with no beer" is the ultimate horror, not only for the Digger but also for any other member of those fine upstanding beer-swilling races of mankind gracing this planet of ours. Due to Australia's vastness however, the remoteness of the bush tavern makes this scenario more akin to the sinking of the Titanic or the disappearance of the dinosaurs.
I suppose I must have first heard this song sung sometime in the 1960's on radio by Slim Dusty. I'm not at all sure, perhaps some kind surfer could correct me. The version which I presently sing can be found in G'Day 20 All Time Favourite Aussie Songs.
