I met an engine
Last updated: 11.10.23
This is a very short little ditty about meeting an engine which can be found in Peggy Grainger's A Mum's (Mostly Musical) Memories. She learned this at a Boxing Day pantomime in the Theatre Royal, Worcester somewhere between the ages of 6 to 11. She also says that it was used as a playground song.
I met an engine on the hill all hot and heavy-hearted.
And this is what he said to me as up the hill he started.
"I think I can, I think I can, I think I can,
And now you see I've done it.
