High Germany
Last updated: 11.10.23
High Germany is another song that I first heard from Brian Kelly . We sang it quite a lot in the Idle Fellows and always enjoyed it. It is on a popular theme of a young lady accompanying her loved one to one of the numerous wars in a previous century. One bit I particularly find favour with is the implied wisdom in the line
"We'll stop at every alehouse, we'll drink when we are dry"
"Fine sentiments", say I.
See The True Lovers for a song similar in sentiment.
