Gute Nacht
Last updated: 22.01.22
Oliver Rosteck, the vocal ensemble leader of the Studiooper der Universität Bremen, introduced me to Gute Nacht, a 4-part arrangement by Kurt Geibel of Karl Martin Reinthaler's Sechs vierstimmige Lieder Op. 8.
This is a lovely German folk song in the form of a Johannes Brahms arrangement for vocal quartet (SATB). We sang it under Oliver's direction at the Schönbergiade 02 and Ceilidh 2002 in June 2002 and again during the final Ceilidh 2003 in June 2003. The song itself is a very lovely, sad poem on the pain and suffering of parting and separation.
