I found this splendid, tuneful whaling song in Roy Palmer's The Oxford Book of Sea Songs and have not heard of it before. The song's tale is very similar to Whaling in Greenland but to a very different tune and a much kinder captain. this captain is very sorry when he loses "...five, jolly, jolly tars" and even sorrier for losing the " ...'prentice boy". Too good to be true!
