Gossip Joan
Last updated: 11.10.23
Gossip Joan is a fine bit of English nonsense which I came across in Geoffrey Shaw's Twice 44 Sociable Songs. His version only has just four verses of a quite inoffensive items of inconsequential gossip whereas there is also an Internet version, which appears to be more inline with the at least three centuries-old original having many, many verses, some ribald, suggesting that there even may still more out there.
In 2007, Dr. Rosteck and I produced a full blown, mildly vulgar 11-verse version which we recorded and published in We're Only Here For The Beer! - Light. Recently (October, 2013), I found another amusing 7-verse variant given in Marrow Bones.
