This song is not exactly my favourite but I like its delicate melody and it has an interesting history. I remember reading somewhere or other that Thomas Moore (1779-1852) wrote it for his beloved wife who had some ghastly skin condition and feared that her husband would no longer love her.
I rarely sing it myself but I accompanied Steffi Noack, a young, talented Vegesack lady, with my concertina on several occasions in 1993.
