The Barley Mow
Last updated: 11.10.23
The Barley Mow is a fine old real English accumulative drinking song, i.e. a song in which the refrain is extended at each repetition. The version I sing can be found in Folk Songs of the British Isles. It is a real old tongue twister with its half-pint-, quarter-pint, nipperkin, pipperkin and a brown bowl. Incidentally it is also a jolly song in teaching the wonderful world of the imperial measurement system.
