La Mode celebrates the creation introduced by Mrs Joseph H. Nathan and Rodney Peters (pictured left) at the Dreamland Dance Palace, St. Louis, Missouri in 1913. The director of the Dreamland Dance Palace Orchestra, B.R. Whitlow, was also the co-author of this work. A description of the dance is given as follows:
  • Gentleman starts on the left foot.
  • Lady starts on the right foot.
  • 4 gliding steps forward.
  • 4 beats pivot.
  • 4 beats grapevine.
  • 4 beats pivot with slight dip - gentleman balancing backward.
This is a delightful tango and in its performance, the players should be mindful of the dance description given above. It benefits greatly of course if a tango pair can be found to accompany the piece.
La Mode was published by the Stark Music Co, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
A tempo of 84 crotchets/min. is suggested.
There is also a quintet version of this item.
