On The Level You're A Little Devil was the hit number in the Winter Garden Passing Show of 1918. Still in circulation today, it was used by Jody Dall'Armi as recently as 2001 as the cover number for the same named CD. The song itself is an enchanting dialogue between a pair of night birds who, each accusing the other of being a devil, want to settle down to a blissful life of matrimonial harmony and turning themselves into angels in the process (see page 6 for the lyrics). Although the melody is pleasant enough by itself, the real charm of the piece only comes to the fore when accompanied by vocalists - a must for progressive recorder ensembles!
On The Level You're A Little Devil was published byWaterson, Berlin & Snyder Co., New York, USA.
A tempo of 120 crotchets/min. is suggested.
