A late published work by Scott Broadway Rag is, as given by the composer's subtitle, a classic which indeed it is. It has an AABBACCBB form whereby the AABBA and CCBB sections are in the major keys of G and C respectively. It is a fine happy balanced ensemble piece with all voices having plenty to do. The descant have just a few half-bar flourishes in the A sections requiring meticulous timing. The bubbling runs alternating between the voices are a special joy demanding high synchronisation skills- a player' piece par excellence. The cover of the original sheet music as seen on the left depicts a most splendid and lavish ballroom with a massive chandelier, huge chains of lanterns with hundreds perhaps even a thousand elegantly attired dancers. Whether the shown establishment is located in St. Louis or has a New York connection is not clear.
Broadway Rag was published by Stark Music Co, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
A tempo of 84 crotchets/min. is suggested.
There is also a sextet version of this item.
