Jack Frost is a lively rag in AABBACCBB form with a 4-bar introduction and an 8-bar interlude between the C- and B-strains whereby the AABBA- and CCBB-strains are written in the major keys of G and C respectively. This adaptation for recorder sextet is a great ensemble piece. Each of the melody voices has a share of the limelight whilst the rhythm section is fully occupied in providing the beat with the odd ascending octave passages to enliven the fun. The cover of the original sheet music shows a smiling Jack Frost in the foreground of a moonlit wintry landscape. Just the stuff to include in a winter ragtime concert.
Jack Frost was published by Monroe Publishing Company, Chicago, Illinois, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
