Too Much Raspberry was dedicated to Maryhelen Whitlock and was Russell's contribution to the
Too Much series of titles initiated by
Cecil Mack with his
Très Moutarde (1911). It is an ambitious composition in AABBCCA form with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar
interlude between the B- and C-strains whereby the AB- and C-strains are written in the major keys of C and F respectively. The cover of the original sheet music shows an apprehensive student fleeing before a can of raspberry jam having dropped his Latin and calculus books. What all this has to do with the fox trot itself is a little mysterious.
Too Much Raspberry was published by
Charles N. Daniels Music Publisher, San Francisco, California, USA.
A tempo of 120 crotchets/min. is suggested.
