As mentioned above
The Whistler and His Dog was one of Pryor's most successful works. It is a whimsical affair in AABACCA with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between the CA strains. Descriptive, there are plenty of glissandi in the A and B strains for the 1st tenor to display virtuosity and humorously we are invited in bar 94 to Bark like a dog. This piece is also another of those pieces which warms the cockles of those recorder ensembles that love alternating instruments. Here all basses alternate to another instrument at some time or other. The cover of the original sheet music shows a young lad seated on a tub whistling away to his happy tail-wagging pet oblivious to his audience of 4 urchins peering over a fence. A jolly piece indeed!
