Kerry Mills Barn Dance is a straightforward composition in ABACD form with simple strains providing no problems for beginners. The score is marked Tempo di Schottische clearly referring to the type of ballroom dance, similar to the polka, which was widely popular in the 19th century. The origin of the name is unknown but the dance is not the same as the écossaise despite the name. In Britain, a barn dance is a progressive round country dance whilst in the USA and Canada it is a party with hoedown music and square-dancing.
Kerry Mills Barn Dance was published by F. A. Mills, New York, USA.
A tempo of 120 crotchets/min. is suggested.
