Cleopatra Rag is a fine free-flowing rag as syncopated as it gets. In this adaptation for recorder it is something of a show case for the treble voice. Plenty of puff is needed as here he or she has the melodic line from start to finish with hardly a moment of respite. In fact it is quite a challenge to find appropriate places to breathe adequately enough without interrupting the melodic flow. Its form is AABBACCB with a 4-bar introduction and a 4-bar interlude between the A- and CC-strains.
Cleopatra Rag was published by the Stark Music Co, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
Despite Lamb' stipulation that this rag should be played Not fast, he then goes on set a tempo of 100. A little slower is also very effective!
There is also a treble solo version of this item.
