American Beauty is certainly everything that Lamb or perhaps more likely his publisher, John Stark, claimed; it is indeed a rag of class. Its strains are hauntingly beautiful and often seem to hang in the air - an open invitation for the studious application of rubato. This recorder adaptation is intended for advanced recorder ensembles, very precise tonguing is required when playing the syncopated triads to accomplish the composer's intentions.
American Beauty was published by the Stark Music Co, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
