Length: approx. 3¼ mins.
A Certain Party is an instrumental version of the same-named song, lyrics by Edgar Selden and also published in the same year - which came first is no longer known. It is a fine jolly effervescent rag which gaily bowls along having an AABBACC form with a 4-bar introduction and a 12-bar interlude between the C strains. It has many fine touches, and especially for my taste, the upwelling harmonics of the 12-bar interlude which heightens the contrast between the C-strains and leads into a furious finale.
A Certain Party was published by Maurice Shapiro Music Publisher, New York, USA.
A tempo of 80 crotchets/min. is suggested.
